Inspired by the addition of Nunavut to the Canadian territories, composer, guitarist Kevin Breit, composed a collection of songs in hopes to reflect emotions associated with this birth. Breit has put together an ensemble whose interpretations of the material are spot on. He has enlisted the talents of bassist, Russell Boswell and drummer, Jorn Andersen (both provided huge contributions to Breit's earlier, Empty.) once again they prove to be a rhythm section who have a collective identity and sensitivity to Breit's music adding to the already colorful palette is bass clarinetist, Kenny Kirkwood; marimbist, Bill Brennan and percussionist, Davide Direnzo. It is Breit's hope that the images conjured by this tonal landscape lets the listeners in on what he envisions 'to be Canadian'. Mark Miller of the Globe and Mail had this to say about Folkalarm...'Breit typically mixes his country, folk and blues sources rather more freely in 10 tracks notable for their simplicity, taste and forthright emotion.'
